Talking Bought a damaged bike with NO KEYS

Hi all,

I just bought a damaged 2006 FZ1 with... drumroll... NO keys. Before buying it, i thought a simple trip to the locksmith would get it sorted but now i just found out that apparently i need to reprogram the ecu or buy a new one or sacrifice a goat and miraculously new keys will appear. Or some combination of the above.

I've also heard rumours that there's some aftermarket thingamajig that can help me somehow by either disabling the immobiliser or something. Anyone here aware of it?

Can anyone suggest what the best course of action is for me?

I'm hoping i don't have to buy a new ECU, thats all.

Cheers

You're in the right spot. Unfortunately most of us here in the US can't be of much help since Yamaha didn't offer the ignition with the immobilizer here. Maybe one of our European friends will chime in...

No immobilisers over there? Why would they do that? Is the crime rate that low over there or something?

I ask myself the same question. Cars have had them over here for years and it has helped tremendously with the theft rate. A motorcycle being even more of a target for theft would benefit from it (immobilizer) tremendously. Sometimes you just don't know what these companies are thinking

Here's one option:

Ron Ayers Motorsports - Motorcycle, ATV, Jet Ski and Generators Parts and Accessories

Basically buy a new US model ECU. Apparently US models don't have the immobiliser. Would it be a plug-n-play jobbie? Eg would all the plugs fit straight in?

I'm not sure Chubs, but at $600 Bananas, I would make certain that you won't have any problems with the swap first. Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

thought I was going to be able to chime in and save the day. There was an ignition set I saw in someone's part out -- but alas it has sold.

in an effort to help -- for say a plane ticket to Australia.....should you find something here in the states that does not have international shipping -- contact me -- buy it, send it to me here in the states and then I'll send to you....

just as an option to try and save a bunch of money.....that is if you try to go the route w/o the immobiliser....

Welcome to the forum.....

Yeah that was another thought i had brohay - buy a used ecu & keys set.
Thanks for the kind offer to help with shipping! I'm not sure if thats what i'll end up doing.
For now i'm trying to get in touch with the original dealer and see if they've got a code. Their stickers are on the bike so hopefully they've got records.
